Woven Wind Fiber Art —
Valerie Doran Bashaw

Four Seasons on the Kaw River by Valerie BashawShibui, “understated elegance,” is a Japanese term which best describes my art. I create patterned, vividly colored fiber art, which suggests natural processes like wind, weather, water and geological phenomena.

My business name, Woven Wind Studio, is taken from an ancient Chinese reference to silk fabric, describing it as the “Woven Wind.” With over twenty years of experience in dyeing, printing and embellishing silk fabric, I create unique, fine art pieces for those who appreciate good quality silk textiles and mixed media works.

I now primarily use the Japanese shibori resist methods, and my own refined bamboo resist techniques, among others, to create silk scarves, garments and quilted, stitched wall pieces. Mixed media two dimensional works and handmade greeting cards are also part of my creative portfolio.

Along with my extensive experience in the studio, I have also worked as an arts educator for students of all ages.

Commissions are most welcome. Please contact me for details and inquiries.
